I saw this on the BBC and thought you should see it:
100 Women: Resham Khan pities man who threw acid on her – http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-42257737
The law in cases like this does not really serve justice. The criminal who did this will enjoy a holiday at the tax payers’ expense. And the punishment he gets is nothing in comparison to the life-long sufferings of the victim.
Like the laws in certain middle east countries, real deterrence would be the retributive old testament law, eye for an eye, disfigurement with disfigurement and should be given as state retribution. That is justice that will send a clear message to future criminals that, what evil they would do to others would be done to them in every detail.
Of course there will be those who disagree with this approach. It is easy to pity the criminal because those who oppose retributive justice are usually not the victims who suffer life-long pain in every form. It sounds goody goody to be idealistic and pity the criminals rather than the victims. But the reality is it is this type of injustice that perpetuates violence against women and others.
